Camping, Memories and Bonding
By: Chelsea Aubin
Taking your family on a camping trip can be a way to gain memories and experiences together. It is a good way to get close with nature and the people you love. Being involved with nature is a great experience and one you will remember forever. While camping there are so many things you can do. You can just sit and relax around the fire and relax, cooking marshmallows and s'mores. Or you could go hiking and mountain biking on trails or roads. Swimming and boating are also great fun when camping. You can also go 4-wheeling or dirt biking if that is more your style.
Fond memories and strong bonds are formed while on camping expeditions. Lovers have become closer, the world appears fresh and new and the crispy morning sunlight that glistens off the dew on the grass, will leave you breathless. When with your family, you will find that spending so much time together and away from the “real world” of electronics and television, you will learn things about each other you have never known before.
You might want to consider going camping in another state. It could be a good experience to explore the different terrain and areas. Just remember that camping in a state park will cost money because of electrical and water hook ups, and in other places showers and bathrooms. But where ever you are going to go camping, either rustic-living of the land camping, or state park “luxury” camping, you might want to consider bringing a first aid kit. Bringing a few of your family's favorite games for the unexpected rainy day could also be a smart idea.
Maybe the best thing about camping is the fresh air and clear skies. You can look off into the horizon and not see a bunch of buildings crowding the sky line. You can also afford to take a deep, deep breath without the worries of smog and smoke, other than campfire smoke. All of the smells of the woods are clearer and you can smell a patch of wildflowers from yards away.
Camping is a great experience for all ages. Becoming closer to nature is one of the most rewarding vacations you can give your children. They will take their experiences from camping, and pass them on to their children.

Sea Kayaking and Your Safety
By: Chelsea Aubin
Sea kayaking and kayak fishing have increased greatly in popularity over the last few years. Because this sport is fun and energetic it can be enjoyed by people of all ages, shapes and sizes. Most people, however, overlook the safety precautions, and are careless in taking their safety seriously, and forget little steps, like checking the weather forecast before they go out. This results in a high number of kayak related deaths each year. There can be a lot of injuries and deaths prevented if simple safety precautions are made, and the safety of the kayaker becomes a more serious matter.
One of the simpler rules to follow is this: make sure it floats. Yes, the most obvious would be making sure the kayak floats and has no holes or gashes that would cause it to sink in the middle of the lake. However, most people don't think of all of the other gear in their kayak. If your kayak rolls, most likely, all of your gear will be floating down the river, which is bad enough, but imagine if it the gear were to sink! You should put gear that isn't waterproof into waterproof containers that will float. You have to remember that if your kayak rolls, even the waterproof areas in your kayak will get water in them.
One thing you should consider carrying in your kayak at all times is a PFD. A PFD is a Personal Flotation Device. A PFD is the single most important piece of equipment you could carry with you in a kayak. Some parts of the world don't require you to bring one with you, but you should take one with you, if not wear it, anyway. They now make them to look good ad feel comfortable, while with storage pockets to hold your gear. There is no reason why you shouldn't wear a PFD for it will not only help you save your gear in a roll over, but could also save your life.
When kayaking it is good to use the buddy system. You should never paddle alone. The weather conditions could change rapidly, and things could happen that you can not handle by yourself. A buddy can help you in these situations, and could save your life.
You can also increase your safety with the gear that you carry. You should carry a compass, map, food, water, matches, flare gun, cell phone and anything else you think you might need. It will all fit into one small bag or even into the storage pockets of the PFD you should be wearing. Also, a pump is a necessity because if your kayak is full of water after rolling or capsizing you are either going to get hypothermia or you aren't going to be able to make it back to shore. Please make sure it floats because if you roll you won't be thinking of is catching your pump.

Picking A Cruise Vacation For Me
By: Gail Leino
You should spend an ample amount of time deciding what it is that you want in a cruise before you get your room on board. The cruise ship is your entertainment, dining experience and living quarters all rolled into one. These ships are meant to be floating cities and you don’t want to end up in smoggy Los Angeles when you really wanted a Neon Las Vegas do you?
Cruises can last anywhere from a few hours up to several months if one so desires to spend that much time on a ship. Some of the more popular length cruises are the three day to ten day stays. This gives guests time to explore the ship and spend plenty of time looking at the water, but lowers the risks of developing cabin fever. Often people will book a cruise to their vacation destination and stay on the land a few days or weeks then catch a cruise back home again.
In order to pick out the best cruise for you research needs to be done. You should look at all the cruise lines that take cruises to the area you are interested in, such as Alaska, or the Caribbean. Looking at the costs of cruises first will help you cross a few of the list right off the bat, but do check and see if the cruises have special deals or coupons that can help ease the budget. Check out the cruise line’s reputation, for fine dining, customer service and perhaps most important of all health and cleanliness.
After narrowing down the list to cruises that pass the quality and hygiene mark take a look at the overall atmosphere of the cruise and decide if that’s right for you. Are you looking for a gambling ship or a family fun cruise? There are even special cruises for those over fifty and the risqué nudist cruises.
Once you’ve followed these suggestions for picking a cruise you should come up with some excellent choices.

The Beauty Of Birdwatching In Northern Virginia
By: Kathryn Lively
Away from the bustle of the Beltway and the imposing monuments of American history rests a part of Virginia where things happen more slowly, and for the better. Here the beautiful birds indigenous to northern Virginia flutter and frolic without a care in the world; the pilated Woodpeckers beat a rhythmic tattoo in search of food, the goldfinches dance in the air, and the majestic eagle soars over land settled by the early fathers. Northern Virginia is a birdwatcher's paradise, literally and figuratively.
For a relaxing vacation in the great outdoors, nothing beats a serene morning of nature at play. In the Stafford area of northern Virginia, there are a number of spots away from the usual tourist traps where one can enjoy the show of beautiful summer plumage and birdsong.
Aquia Landing
A public beach in Northern Virginia? True, this area might not have the beachy feel of towns on the southern shore, but Aquia Landing offers visitors a peaceful atmosphere and ample opportunity for birdwatching.
Abel Reservoir
There's more than fish biting at this popular picnic spot. If the idea of sitting in a boat for hours in this fully-stocked lake holds no appeal, take a hike along the many trails bordering the water. Abel Reservoir is one of the most beautiful, natural spots in the county, home to many flying friends.
Washington's Ferry Farm
The former home of a great founding father has hosted nearly 100 known species of birds! So popular is this area that the farm hosts regular birding tours. This informative morning will teach you everything you want to know about the mating and living habits of these creatures.
Chatham
Stroll through the gardens of this famous Virginia manse and you might spy a few finches among the flowers. The beauty of Chatham mansion is enhanced daily by the many species of birds that flutter among the grounds.
From public beachs to living museums, northern Virginia provides a home to many species of birds. Grab your binoculars and zoom lens camera and be ready, because you never know what to expect when you go birding in Virginia.
